Our 9th Iowa skatepark project is officially complete at American Legion Park and has put the City of West Des Moines on the Iowa skateboarding map.
The skatepark design was heavily shaped by a narrow and linear footprint, but our process, including an “open house” input session with the local skateboarding community, generated a modern layout with a healthy mix of skatepark staples, as well as unique elements not typically found in Iowa. Most notable is a curb cut with a sphere bollard mimicking the urban architecture skateboarders crave.
Swift completion of conceptual design and construction documents was followed up with a turnkey skatepark construction scope including earthwork, concrete, steel and landscaping.
Since opening in September, West Des Moines’ skatepark has steadily attracted large crowds – a testament to the quality of the skatepark design. Those crowds may grow even larger when a potential phase 2 pump track or transition section is added in the future. Stay tuned for that!
