South Padre Island, located on southern tip of Texas, is now home to a modern 6,000 square foot concrete skatepark brought to life by Spohn Ranch’s specialty craftsmen. Navigating extreme weather and limited resources on the island, we executed a turnkey construction scope including drainage, earthwork, steel fabrication and concrete/shotcrete.
The skatepark design features a beginner-friendly bowl surrounded by a variety of unique transition elements including hips, pump humps and a quarter-pipe extension with pool coping. Street elements including manual pads and a flat grind rail complete the center section of the skatepark. Texas fan-favorites Mikey Whitehouse and Nick Holt joined by photographer Eric Echo tested out the new skatepark and returned with high praise for the construction quality. The South Padre Island Skatepark celebrated its official grand opening in early May and is now open for the public to enjoy.
