After 12 years of tireless fundraising and advocacy by local parents Roger and Fern Streich, the City of Janesville, Wisconsin selected Spohn Ranch and Madison-based Ayres Associates to finally bring their skatepark project to fruition. Sub-grade composed of bedrock and local preference for plaza-style terrain drove an above-grade design, but we refused to settle for a strictly linear layout. A colored concrete swirl winds through the skatepark, at one point capitalizing on a natural elevation change at the site.
In addition to architectural and aesthetic finesse, the skatepark design focuses on a healthy balance of terrain for varying skill levels and riding styles. And as an added bonus, construction was completed on-budget and on-schedule.
