Iowa is not known as a hub of quality skateparks, with only one concrete skatepark built within the past 5 years (our design/build project in Oskaloosa), but we’re excited to take a positive step towards changing that with our latest Iowa skatepark project at OB Nelson Park in the City of Fairfield.
Thanks to the generous donation of a private donor, OB Nelson Park will soon be home to a 4,000 square foot modern skateable landscape. The skatepark design was created in collaboration with the local skateboarders of Fairfield who requested a facility that was balanced with both street and transition-style terrain. The final concept features a multi-level bowl with a waterfall, tombstone extension and multiple hips, as well as a street section with ledges, rails and a curved manual pad.
The skatepark will be slightly built up to accomplish positive drainage and an environmentally responsible cut/fill balance. Brick red colored concrete for the bowl walls and flatwork stripes will also add a nice aesthetic touch.
A Spohn Ranch construction crew is scheduled to ship out from another skatepark project in West Virginia in late August and hit the ground running with Fairfield’s skatepark build. Stay tuned for updates!
