With the success of recent Kern County projects, including DiGiorgio Park in Arvin and Planz Park in southern Bakersfield, Spohn Ranch has developed a strong reputation among Bakersfield-area skateboarders. So when word got around that Spohn Ranch was designing and building a new skatepark in northern Bakersfield, anticipation quickly started growing.
Unexpected red tape at the State level put the project on pause for nearly two years, resulting in a near-daily barrage of social media inquiries from Bakersfield skateboarders. As of April, we’re happy to finally respond to those inquiries with good news and let everyone know that the North Beardsley Skatepark in Oildale is officially under construction.
Funded and managed by North of the River Recreation and Park District, the skatepark will occupy the site of a former swimming pool and is expected to be complete in late summer of 2018.
