The title of “best skatepark in Ohio” will soon be bestowed upon Newark, Ohio, thanks to a state-of-the-art skatepark design/build by Spohn Ranch. The skatepark is one component of a larger improvement project at Everett Park and would not be possible without an amazing collaboration between Spohn Ranch, the Thomas J. Evans Foundation, the City of Newark and a team of local engineers, architects and contractors.
In addition to the skatepark, Everett Park will receive a new community garden, playground, dog park, parking lot and picnic pavilion.
The skatepark design was shaped by Newark’s skateboard and bike community through a series of design workshops and is a testament to what Spohn Ranch can do with a healthy budget and a client who encourages us to spread our creative wings.
The 16,000 square foot concrete skatepark has it all:
· Street section with rails, ledges and manual pads
· Beginner bowl section with spine
· Intermediate bowl section
· Advanced bowl section with full-pipe
· Pump track
· Lights
· Spectator seating
· Shade
Most importantly though, the Newark Skatepark is a work of art. Sculptural concrete shapes and powder coated steel arches rise up out of the earth creating an eye-catching, iconic masterpiece. When photos and videos of the skatepark spread, it will be instantly recognizable as the Newark Skatepark.
The Spohn Ranch crew landed in July and is making great progress, with a completion target of October. Stay tuned for construction updates and grand opening information!
