With a proud history of skatepark construction in the State of Illinois, Spohn Ranch was the clear choice for the Village of Oak Lawn as they embarked on a skatepark renovation project. The aging wood ramps at Worthbrook Park had reached the end of their lifespan and it was time for a modern approach.
The concrete slab was in good condition – steel trowel finish, minimal cracking and no differential settlement, making it a perfect candidate for re-use. With a combination of structural styrofoam and concrete cutting, we transformed the 16,000 square foot slab into a modern concrete skate plaza.
With new features like stairs, hips, manual pads and rails, local skateboarders now have a centralized location to hone their skills and socialize with a growing community of like-minded young adults.
