For the fourth consecutive year, Spohn Ranch was hired by Alli Sports and NBC to construct a world class bowl for the Dew Tour’s “Beach Championships” in Ocean City, Maryland. In the months leading up to the event, we worked with professional skateboarding legend Chris Miller to change up the bowl’s design for the first time since our original collaboration in 2011. The re-design resulted in new shallow and deep end configurations, as well as the addition of an over-vert clamshell. After speaking with a wide spectrum of professionals, amateurs and local skateboarders, the consensus was that we nailed it and that the new shape was just as fun, if not more fun that the original creation.
Per usual, our window for constructing the bowl was extremely tight – leaving no room for errors. The state-of-the-art portable concrete technology we debuted in 2011 allowed our crew to execute the build in a matter of days.
When the final block of pool coping was set, our crew was finally able to take a breath and watch as some of the world’s top professional skateboarders dove in for their first tastes. While pros like Kevin Kowalski, Tom Scharr, Greyson Fletcher and Sandro Diaz gave it a hell of shot, Maryland-native Bucky Lasek emerged victorious claiming Dew Tour gold.
We’re already looking forward to next year!
