Have you heard the saying “When one door closes, another door opens”? In the case of Bayonne, NJ when one skatepark closed, another one opened.
Bayonne’s indoor skatepark “The Bridge” was a second home for many local youth, so when it sadly closed its doors in 2015 it created a void in the skateboard community. Local skate shop owner Gary Iannitelli recognized this void and approached the City with a request for a modern concrete skatepark.
Bayonne Major Jimmy Davis answered the call and became a champion for the cause.
“These are our youth, and if this is what they like doing, we owe it to them to give them what they need to enjoy themselves,” Davis said.
Davis then turned to Spohn Ranch as the City’s professional skatepark designer and builder. After collaborating with Iannitelli and other local skateboarders on the skatepark design, our construction team crafted the skatepark’s concrete walls and slopes on-budget and ahead of schedule.
Less than a year after the demise of “The Bridge”, we are proud to say that Bayonne’s skateboarding community is whole again.
