After years of anticipation, the North Beardsley Skatepark is officially open!
On Saturday, September 22, Spohn Ranch and North of the River Recreation Park District cut the ribbon for what many are calling Bakersfield’s “best skatepark yet”.
Prior to Spohn Ranch’s skatepark design/build, the site was occupied by a defunct swimming pool that had been closed for decades. Other than an expansive spectator/shade area which was refurbished, the entire site was demolished to make space for a modern concrete skatepark with a 5’ – 7’ bowl, a wide array of “street” elements, continuous flow and a state-of-the art lighting system.
The skatepark also features a modern aesthetic with colored concrete, synthetic turf and a oil derrick sculpture at the park’s entrance paying homage to the area’s history.
The day before the grand opening we sent out local Santa Cruz Skateboards amateur rider Dylan Williams and friends to get a first hand preview of the skatepark.
Thank you to everyone involved for such a rewarding project!
