After a short gap in coverage, Fritz Burns Park in La Quinta, California is once again home to a public skatepark.
A collection of metal ramps served the community well for nearly 15 years, but when a renovation project for the overall park forced the skatepark to move south, we advised the City to recycle the ramps and upgrade to concrete.
Building directly on top of an existing asphalt, our team of experienced skatepark builders used EPS blocks (structural styrofoam) and cast-in-place concrete to create a simple, yet fun 2,500 square foot skatepark. The skatepark design features transition on either end and a collection of street obstacles in the center – including a hipped bank, manual pad and flat grind rail.
On March 26th, the City of La Quinta and Spohn Ranch hosted a grand opening for the new Fritz Burns Skatepark. Local skateboarders trickled in as the word of mouth grew about a new skatepark in the neighborhood. Action Park Alliance and Palm Springs Skatepark manager Robert Loeung came out to shoot some photos of the action. Fontana resident and professional skateboarder Daniel Espinoza also graced the skatepark with his smooth style.
While a valuable addition to the neighborhood, the Fritz Burns Skatepark can be considered just a warm-up. Up next is our design/build for the La Quinta X Park – a large-scale, world-class action sports facility in northeast La Quinta.
