A long time coming, we’re excited to announce that Spohn Ranch was on site this week in Houma, Louisiana for the Fireman’s Skatepark pre-construction kick-off meeting. The park is named in honor of a private donor who after a lifetime of serving his community as a firefighter, decided he wanted to continue serving by anonymously donating his hard-earned funds to the skateboarding and biking youth of Houma. The Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government also deserves a big shout-out for sourcing the rest of funding and shepherding the project through years of red tape.
The skatepark design features a healthy balance of street and transition-style terrain, a beginner section, open space for programming/events, a modern restroom building and amphitheater-style spectator seating with a shade canopy. It’s scheduled to open in late 2014 – early 2015.
